The 10-Minute Pre-Shoot Checklist That Saves Every Session

Before every shoot, take 10 minutes to run this quick checklist—it’ll save you from preventable mistakes and help you show up calm, confident, and prepared:

  • Charge batteries + pack a spare (if you have one)

  • Clear/format memory cards so you’re not fighting storage mid-session

  • Reset camera settings from the last shoot (ISO, WB, shutter, focus mode, drive mode)

  • Confirm time + location and do a quick weather check if you’re outdoors

  • Choose 2–3 “must-have” shots you want no matter what

  • Pack a mini emergency kit: lint roller, wipes, safety pins, small brush/comb, hair tie

  • Do a 30-second light test when you arrive to dial in a solid starting exposure

  • Send a quick prep text if needed (where to park, what to bring, last-minute reminder)
